In December 2018, Stephen Mulvany launched his new Bloodstock Agency, Origin Bloodstock.
Where we started
Stephen started riding out for his uncle and trainer, Michael Mulvany from the early age of 15. Here he worked every weekend and school holiday up until he finished school. His main responsibilities were grooming, riding out, riding work, racing groom and being involved in the breaking and pre-training operation.
Following a number of years with Mulvany, he went on to study Animal Science - Equine at University College Dublin where he specialised in Equine Nutrition, Reproduction, Exercise Physiology, Breeding, Equine Genetics and Health and Husbandry.
During his time in UCD, he worked with HRI at Leopardstown Racecourse for 3 years. In 2015 he moved to Japan to work for Dr Harry Sweeney at Paca Paca Farm where he stayed for 6 months. Here he learned all the necessary skills involved in the breeding and post natal care of broodmares and young stock, including foals and yearlings.
He has worked at numerous thoroughbred sales (foals, yearlings and broodmares) across Japan, the USA, Ireland, France and the UK for some well established consignors including: Baroda & Colbinstown, Jamie Railton Sales Agency, Vinery Sales, Paca Paca Farm and many more....
After graduating, Stephen joined Plusvital, the world's leading Equine Genetics and Nutrition company, as their North American Sales Executive, based in Lexington Kentucky where he worked closely with Owners, Breeders and Trainers to help them maximise their success.
After returning to Ireland, Stephen headed the Supplement salesforce for Plusvital as the Irish Sales Executive. Here he helped trainers and breeders optimise their horses nutritional programmes, to ensure they operated at their maximum capacity.
Launching Origin Bloodstock
Following 2 1/2 years of working with Plusvital, Stephen has branched out and launched his own Bloodstock Agency, Origin Bloodstock.
Stephen has spent over a year working in Lexington Kentucky, where he has made numerous friends and associates involved in the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry.
Stephen will be specialising in sourcing horses in Europe for clients and agents in the United States while building on his client base in Ireland.
The aim of Origin Bloodstock is to offer a modern approach to Bloodstock selection while also incorporating the traditional assessment techniques (pedigree research, physical and conformation analysis etc).
The Future of Origin Bloodstock
Over the next year we will be focussing on building our client base here in Ireland while also focussing on expanding our contacts and client base to the Middle East, China, Malaysia and Australasia. The ultimate goal is to become one of the most prominent and successful International Bloodstock Agencies in the world.
